First Day of School

The "first day of school outfit" is a crucial one for students and teachers alike. I can remember the exact outfits I chose for the first day of school as far back as preschool.

Yes, I'm serious.

Generally speaking, the outfit you wear on the first day is made up of new clothes purchased during a "back-to-school shopping" trip. Sometimes you choose to make an entirely new outfit for the first day - new shirt, new pants, new shoes, new purse, new makeup, new hair accessories, etc. More often, however, I find it's better to spread the new items out over a longer period, so the excitement lasts a little longer than it might otherwise. Hence, my "first day of school outfit" is a new top surrounded by well-loved staples:

I absolutely adore this bright blue shade, and the satiny material classes up what would otherwise be just an ordinary t-shirt. The loose, blousy top is nicely balanced by the more fitted cut of the pencil skirt (especially with the wide belt cinching at the waist), and the shoes are fashionable and functional. Since the shirt is the star of this particular "show," the jewelry plays a supporting role, but without that support, the outfit would seem incredibly plain.

So, do we count this "first day" outfit as a success? Weigh in with your opinion in the comments!

  1. Isn't Target great? They have everything. "Expect more for less" is one of the only truths in advertising I've seen in a while. Also, I know any student concerned with fashion would have appreciated the first day get up. Looks great. Enjoy the year.

  2. Very elegant, yet workable. I think it was a success. It's not uber-trendy to make too jarring of an impression on the first day. It's classic and controlled.

  3. I tried to selectively pick posts to comment on so I didn't bombard you. I loved this one though, I always went back-to-school shopping with my mom (until I came to college) such happy memories! I always felt like a million bucks in my all new outfit! Come to think of it, I should have spread mine out a little too. Since I've came to college I've just worn something comfortable that I like.

And I LOVE this! I think the shoes are what gets me, fierce! Great back-to-school look!

    perfectly priya
